Georgian Adventure -
Your journey begins amongst the historical sights of the capital, before heading into the idyllic mountainous countryside to spend your days cycling and walking amongst the beautiful gorges. You’ll visit isolated churches and take horseback rides along mountain trails, before continuing on into central Georgia to enjoy a day’s rafting and the hospitality of the ski resort of Bakuriani.With plenty of time in the mountains to walk, ride and visit the pristine mountain lakes, you’ll also explore the ancient cave town of Vardzia and spend the night in a riverside guesthouse. Journey’s end then sees you back in Tbilisi, where there will be time to shop for some last minute souvenirs before flying home.

Day  1: Tbilisi

Arrive in Tbilisi and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Tbilisi

Today you'll enjoy a sightseeing tour of old Tbilisi, a charming town built along the twisting valley of the Mtkvari River. Your journey of discovering will take in the Sioni Cathedral and the 6th century Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest church in the city, before continuing on to see the city's history museum and the imposing 4th century ruins of the Narikala Fortress, which once dominated the city from its hilltop setting. Day 3: Tbilisi – Kazbegi

A dramatic trip into the sheer landscapes of the Caucasus Mountains takes you along the Georgian Military Highway today. Running for some 220 kilometres, from Tbilisi to Vladikavkaz in Russia, this follows the old trading route through the Terek Valley. Stopping in Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital, you'll see the 4th century Jvari church and the impressive 12th century Svetitskoveli Cathedral, before continuing on to the fortress of Ananauri. Then it is on to the town of Kazbegi, where you'll climb to the Holy Trinity Church for some magnificent views. (B,D)

Day 4: Cycle through Dariali Gorge And Sno Valley

Taking to two wheels today, you'll cycle through the dramatic setting of the Dariali Gorge, which stretches north towards the Russian border, along the eastern base of Mount Kazbek. Continuing on into the picturesque Sno  Valley, you'll then cycle past a timeless collection of small villages before returning to Kazbegi later this afternoon. (B,L,D)


Day 5: Kazbegi - Mt Chaukhebi – Gudauri

This morning you drive to the village of Juta, following a narrow road that takes you deeper into the surrounding mountains. Encircled by glorious mountain landscapes and completely cut off from the rest of the country for six months of the year, this charming old village still clings to its old traditions, providing a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience for visitors. From here you'll then take a pleasant walk up to 2,550  metres and the foot of Mt Chaukhebi (3842  metres), before driving on to Gudauri. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Full Day Horse Ride In Khada Gorge

Meeting up with your horses and guides this morning, you'll set out to explore the beautiful Khada Gorge on horseback. Famed for its wildflowers, mountain scenery and medieval watchtowers, the gorge lies at around 1,050  metres above sea level, amongst the dense forests and pristine nature of eastern Georgia. At the end of the ride a vehicle will be waiting to return you to Gudauri. (B,L,D)  

Day 7: Horse Ride to Mt Lomisa

Today you will drive to the village of Qvesheti, where your horses will be waiting for you. From here you will then ride to the top of Mt Lomisa, site of the 9th century church of St George. The saddle-like ridge offers some beautiful views down both sides, across the Qsani and Khevi Gorges. Departing the summit, you will then walk back down the steep hill for a couple of hours, to rendezvous with your vehicle for the drive back to Gudauri. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Gudauri - Pasanauri – Gori

This morning you'll drive to Pasanauri, to meet up with your rafting team. After receiving an instructive tutorial on rafting and river safety, you'll then spend the next hour experiencing an exhilarating adventure along the Aragvi River, enjoying an exciting mix of wild water and wild country, before driving on to Gori. Day 9: Gori – Bakuriani

This morning you will visit Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-hewn town lying along the route of the Great Silk Road. Carved from the cliffs that line the banks of the Mtkvari River, sometime between the 6th century BC and 1st century AD, this was once home to one of the oldest urban settlements in Georgia. From here you'll then drive into the forested Borjomi region and up through the mountains to the ski resort of Bakuriani, a beautiful setting in summer or winter. (B,L,D)

Day 10: Village Horse Ride

Taking to the saddle again this morning, you will ride on to the nearby villages of Didi and Patar Mitarbi today. Untouched by the development that has accompanied Bakuriani's rise in popularity as a ski resort, the villages are refreshingly unspoiled by the modern age and provide a peaceful and authentic slice of old Georgia. Day 11: Tabatskuri Lake Excursion

A morning's drive over the Tskratskaro Pass brings you to the village and lake of Tabatskuri, which lies
nestled amidst a landscape of truly breathtaking beauty. Weather permitting you might be able to see the towering peak of Mt Elbrus in the distance, the highest mountain in the Great Caucasus range. Driving back to Bakuriani, you'll then have time to enjoy a half-day walk up to Mt Kokhta.(B,L,D)


Day 12: Bakuriani – Vardzia

This morning you'll drive into the peaceful region of Vardzia, to enjoy the majestic spectacle of one of the highlights of your journey. Stretching for over half a kilometre, along the course of the Mtkvari River, the stunning cave monastery site at Vardzia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to rock-cut  churches, amazing 12th century frescoes and some 500 cave dwellings. The complex encompasses an incredible labyrinth  of living quarters, chapels, refectories and wine cellars that once housed hundreds of people. (B,L,D)


Day 13: Vardzia  - Tbilisi

This morning your route back to Tbilisi will take you close to both the Turkish and Armenian borders, as you cross a high plateau and drive past Lake Paravani, a large lake whose shores are dotted with villages that lie in the shadow of the surrounding mountains. As you descend towards Tbilisi, the barren plateau eventually gives way to the wooded valleys and rich farmland that lead into the capital.(B)
